Small buttocks – what can be done about it?

The size and shape of the buttocks can influence the self-image and also the level of self-esteem. Multiple studies show that beautiful people are more successful and the high demands of the modern society make it easy to understand why so many people resort to plastic surgery intervention to improve their appearance. The only efficient method to correct small buttocks is plastic surgery, namely the butt implants surgery and the fat transfer to the butts. All other procedures and methods that can be found online are either inefficient or unsafe. In this article, we will discuss eligible options to enhance the aspect of small buttocks.

Plastic surgery to correct small buttocks

As mentioned before, there are not one, but two procedure performed for butt augmentation purposes. One of the procedures is done with gluteal implants while the other uses fat injections. There are several differences in between the procedures and also in terms of the results achieved. Let’s see how each procedure can help you correct small buttocks:

1.    Butt implants surgery

Butt implants surgery is the procedure recommended for both men and women with small and flat buttocks. The intervention entails making incisions in the intragluteal fold to create pockets inside the gluteal muscles where the implants are inserted. In other words, the implants will be positioned on the upper part of the buttocks, where the muscles are. There is another implant placement possible when the butt implants surgery is performed, namely under the gluteal muscles, but it is rarely performed as it is associated with more risks and complications compared to the inside the muscle placement.

To be eligible for the butt implants surgery, the patient needs to be in good health and emotional condition and understand the risks and complications associated with the intervention. Having realistic expectations from the surgery is also important for patients interested in undergoing a buttock augmentation.

The hospitalization period after this procedure is of no longer than a few hours, during this time the patient needs to recover from the effects of the general anesthesia used and be able to leave the hospital on his feet. The recovery period starts at home and is of two to three weeks post-op.

After the effects of the general anesthesia are completely gone, it is not uncommon for patients to experience a certain level of pain and discomfort. To alleviate the pain, make sure to take the prescribed medication according to the doctor’s orders. Also following his indications to the letter will help you avoid unnecessary pain during the recovery period and have a fast and smooth healing.

Not sitting on the buttocks or laying on the back is crucial for the success of the procedure and it is also advisable to avoid smoking for about three to six weeks post-op.

2.    Fat transfer to the buttocks

The procedure is known under multiple different names including the lipofilling of the buttocks, the Brazilian butt lift and the fat grafting to the buttocks. What it entails is a combination of liposuction and fat transfer to the butts performed with the aim of not only adding volume to the buttocks but also making it perkier and with an overall improved shape. The fat transfer to the buttocks can only be performed on patients who have an excess of fat at the level of what are often considered the donor areas – the flanks, the abdominal wall, and the thighs. In some cases, even the back can be treated with liposuction to get the required amount of fat for the transfer. In the absence of donor areas with a surplus of fat tissue, the procedure can’t be performed. This means that patients with a slim and small body frame might not be eligible candidates for the procedure. Also, it is not uncommon for the plastic surgeon to ask patients to gain a few more pounds before the surgery is performed to make sure there is enough fat for the transfer. Keep in mind that we can extract a maximum of six to seven liters of fat in one liposuction session. Some of this fat will be lost when the purification process is performed, and it is a maximum of 1 liter of fat that will remain to be injected into each buttocks. Also, patients interested in this procedure have to know that not all the fat that is injected into the buttocks when the fat transfer is performed will survive the first few months post-op. The body will absorb a certain percentage of the fat injected while the rest will develop a new blood network that will ensure its survival. A successful procedure is one where 60-70% of the fat injected remains in the buttocks after the first three months.

The recovery period after this intervention is similar in terms of demands on the patient with the butt implants surgery. It is mandatory to avoid any type of pressure applied to the buttocks as it can cause the fat transferred to die and also asymmetries and other imperfections that could otherwise be avoided.

The discomfort experienced at the beginning of the recovery period can be compared to the one that occurs when the butt implants surgery is performed. However, the pain is less intense when the fat transfer to the butts is done as the procedure is less invasive. Keep in mind that after the fat transfer there will be scars left both at the level of the donor areas and the buttocks, but they are usually barely visible and placed in areas hard to notice.

Other methods advertised to help with butt augmentation

We will start this chapter by mentioning injection to the buttocks that are available on the black market and advertised as just as efficient as silicone implants only cheaper. We are talking about silicone injections or Hydrogel injections. Before anything else you should know that they are not FDA approved and no respectable plastic surgeon will ever use them for butt augmentation purposes. The silicone injections are illegal and associated with severe and life-threatening complications as the silicone they use is very different from the silicone in the implants. The silicone for the injections is actually industrial silicone that can be found at the supermarket for a few dollars. It was never meant to be injected inside the buttocks but around your house. The consequences of using these types of injections can be deadly, so people interested in buttocks augmentation are strongly advised to seek help from a talented, experienced board-certified plastic surgeon and never let themselves on the hands of people with no credentials or accreditations. Also, keep in mind that the results of these illegal practices don’t necessarily occur in the first days and weeks after the procedure. It can take months for the complications to occur and, as mentioned before, they can be quite severe.

People often resort to these solutions because they believe plastic surgery is expensive, but what actually happens is that they pay hundreds or thousands of dollars on injections with silicone that costs a few dollars and also expose themselves to incredible risks.

Less dangerous but not very efficient either are sports and diets when it comes to enhancing the size of the buttocks. There are patients who join the gym with the firm belief that in a few weeks or months they will have the buttocks of their dreams. This rarely happens. Intense physical exercises can actually lead to getting a smaller buttock as a result of burning the fat layer on the butts.

While you will find multiple results online when searching for a diet for buttock augmentation, you should know that there is no such thing as a diet to target a specific part of the body. We can’t gain weight only at the level of one area, and we can’t lose weight from just one area.

The aspect of small buttocks can be enhanced with the help of plastic surgery. There are two procedures that can be performed for this purpose – the butt implants surgery and the fat grafting to the buttocks. Also, it can happen for the plastic surgeon to advise you to undergo combined procedures to get the results you desire.

The butt augmentation with implants will deliver a considerable increase in the projection of the buttocks. This augmentation is more predictable, and we can easily sustain the results of the intervention as it is not affected by potential weight fluctuations, as it is the case of the fat transfer to the butts.

The fat grafting is more suitable for patients with an excess of adipose tissue at the level of other areas of the body that will be treated with liposuction to collect the fat necessary for the transfer. This procedure is recommended when the patient desires a more natural, but also more discreet augmentation and a perky buttocks.

Other methods such as sports, diets, and injections with other types of fillers are either not delivering good results or not safe for the patient.
